SALEM, Va. – The Greensboro College softball team spilt a non-conference doubleheader with Roanoke College Thursday.
The Pride fell in Game 1, 8-2, before winning Game 2, 5-4.
Game One
Roanoke College took an early one-run lead before the Pride scored a pair of unearned runs in the top half of the third inning to give the Pride a 2-1 lead.
Madison Crisco and
Hayley Rumley scored the Pride's runs.
Despite the two-run third inning, Roanoke was able to score the game's next seven runs to take the six-run victory.
Cassie Collins and Rumley had one hit each for the Pride, while
Hayley Tickle took the loss in the pitching circle after tossing five innings.
Brittany Nozet pitched the final inning for Greensboro.
Game Two
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Rumley scored on a
Kaylee Johnson fielder's choice.
The Maroons was then able to score two runs in the home half of the inning to take a one-run lead of their own.
However, the Pride regained the lead in the second inning after plating three runs.
Madison Crisco plated
Brittainy Rush with a single to right field before Rumley doubled home
Taylor Little and Rumley.
Roanoke was able to tie the game at four with two runs in the fifth inning before the Pride scored the deciding run in the sixth inning on a Rumley fielder's choice.
Johnson had a team-high two hits, while Rumley,
Mandi Ballard, Rush, Puckett, and Crisco had one hit each.
Maddy Wetherholt picked up her sixth win of the season in the pitching circle, while striking out four batters.
