GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split at USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader with Ferrum College Sunday.
The Pride fell in Game 1, 9-7, before winning Game 2, 9-4.
"I am really happy that we were able to go 3-1 this weekend," Head Coach
Teresa Fister said. "The girls fought in every inning and did not let up."
Game One
Ferrum jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning before Greensboro was able to get one run back in the bottom after
Hayley Rumley scored from third base on a first and third play.
The Panthers then scored their final two runs in the top of the second inning before Greensboro started climbing back into the game in the bottom half when
Brittainy Rush hit a homerun over the left field wall to pull the Pride to within six.
The Pride then added two more runs in the inning before scoring their final three runs in the sixth inning. Maddison Crisco had a RBI single in the sixth inning that scored
Taylor Little from third base.
Melissa Garcia went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Greensboro, while Rumley finished with two hits.
Kaylee Johnson, Rush, Little, and Crisco each had one hit.
Hayley Tickle was credited with the loss, while
Brittany Nozet pitched the final six innings.
Game Two
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead into the second after capitalizing on a Ferrum error that scored Johnson.
Ferrum then plated four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead before Greensboro regained the one-run lead in the bottom half with four runs of their own.
Garcia got the four-run inning started with a RBI single down the left field line before Johnson plated two runs with a single of her own.
Cassie Collins then capped off the inning with a RBI single that scored Garcia.
The Pride then scored the game's final four runs in the third inning that was highlighted by a Crisco RBI triple to right center field, scoring Little and
Kali Puckett.
Following the Crisco triple, Rumley scored Crisco form third base with a double into right center field before coming in to score on a Ferrum fielding error.
Maddy Wetherholt pitched a complete game to record her fifth win of the season, while striking out three batters. Johnson finished with a team-high three hits, while Little and Crisco had two hits each.
