Rocky Mount, N.C.- The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins Friday during the Roger Taylor Memorial Classic at North Carolina Wesleyan College, 83-101.
The Pride managed to gain the first lead of the game with a layup from
Trey Smith, but unfortunately, it was Greensboro's only lead in the first period.
After trading baskets for the first ten minutes, senior
Joseph Gatling managed to even the game 22-22 with a successful free throw.
Nevertheless, with two three-point field goals, the Marlins held onto the lead for the remainder of the half.
Firing up the second half was a three-pointer from
Keyford Langley, followed by a layup from
Demetrius Tilley.
As the Pride built off of a 9-2 run, they were able to pull within five points of the Marlins.
However, over the last the last ten minutes of the contest, Greensboro was unable to catch up to Virginia Wesleyan.
"We needed to make more shots tonight," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "Our defense and rebounding has to improve if we are going to win games on the road or any game period."
Scoring in double digits for the Pride was Darrus Maddox (20),
Trey Smith (14),
Keyford Langley (14), and
Carmoni Marks (11). Gatling collected four rebounds and two steals.
