GREENSBORO, N.C. - After 110 grueling minutes of action, the Greensboro College men's soccer team tied with the Scots of Maryville College Saturday, 0-0.
Â
Both the Scots and the Pride had prime opportunities to find the back of the net in first 90 minutes of action, but both goalkeepers made some outstanding saves.
Â
Following the conclusion of regulation, Greensboro got the first crack at a shot on goal as
Carlos Barragan blasted a shot from just inside the 18-yard box, but the Scots' Ryan Jorgensen was able to push the ball just over the cross bar for a Greensboro corner kick.
Â
On the ensuing corner kick, Maryville was able to establish possession to form a counter attack on the Pride back line but sophomore center back
Cole Watkins was able to slow the pace and dispossess the Scots.
Â
Over the final 8 minutes of the first overtime period, the Pride continued to apply pressure on the Scots but was once again unable to finish, sending the game into the final 10-minute overtime period.
Â
With time winding down in the final segment, Darli Mihndou and Barragan each had an opportunity to win it for the Pride but both shots were wide of the goal frame to end the contest in a scoreless draw.
Â
The Pride outshot the Scots 19-7.
Jaime Payamps recorded five saves for Greensboro, while Jorgensen finished with seven saves for Maryville.
"It's disappointing to come away with a tie today," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "I'm very proud of the guys and they defended well against Maryville, a really combative team. We created many chances to put the game away, but unfortunately, we did not hit the target due to too many touches.
Â
"Today was a testament of the capabilities that we have in the USA South amongst the other teams. Now we just have to recover and look forward to our last home game against William Peace on Wednesday."
Â
The Pride men will return to action Wednesday when they host the Pacers of William peace at 3 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College men's soccer, continue to follow
