Women's Basketball Falls To William Peace In Conference Play

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive USA South Athletic Conference contest Wednesday to William Peace University, 54-39

The Pride (4-8, 0-2 USA South) opened the game on a 5-0 run before the Pacers (8-2, 1-0 USA South) used a 7-0 run to take a two-point lead. Rashieka Gregory accounted for three of Greensboro's five points, while Monica Smalls added one bucket.

The Pacers were then able to push their advantage to four points but the Pride regained the lead at 17-15, following a 6-0 run. Marla Crawford sparked the spurt with a fast break basket before Kamerin Williams combined for four points.

After Greensboro regained the lead, William Peace used a 15-0 run to establish a 30-17 lead before Leea Parker hit a three-pointer for the half's final bucket.

William Peace was then able to extend their margin to 45-22 before Greensboro pulled within 49-36 following a 14-4 run. Marla Crawford scored eight of her team-high 13 points, while Courtney Pearsall chipped in four points.

However, Greensboro was not able to get any closer for the remainder of the contest, falling by the 15-point margin.

"We missed some key rebounds early in the second period and things snowballed from there," Assistant Coach Reggie Hines said. "We have to play with more energy and intensity for a full 40 minutes  if we want to win games.

"Now we have to get back to practice and get ready for our next game."

Gregory was the only other Pride player to score in double figures (10), while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Pearsall also finished with nine rebounds.

The Pride women will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when they travel to take on Mary Baldwin University. For more information on Greensboro College women's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
