Volleyball Drops Two On Opening Day

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Greensboro College volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College Friday.
 
The Pride fell to the host Bullets to open the afternoon, 3-0, before suffering an identical defeat against Salisbury University.
 
Greensboro struggled to get things going in the first two sets, falling by scores of 25-10 and 25-16.
 
However, the Pride did not go away quietly, dropping the third set, 25-23.
 
The Pride raced out to a 5-3 lead behind the serve of Haley Borher, before Gettysburg battled back to even the set at 6.
 
Later in the set, Greensboro used a 7-1 run to establish a five-point advantage. Darrian Bolt and Brandy Johnson each recorded one kill during the run.
 
The Bullets then rallied to close out the match with the two-point victory.
 
Shayla Moss, Emily Horn, and Holly Anders each had a team-high three kills, while Breanna Wilton and Bolt recorded two service aces. Rachel Suttee had a team-leading 11 digs.
 
After suffering their opening defeat to the host squad, the Pride raced out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set against Salisbury. However, the Seagulls used a 6-1 run to even the score before going on to win the set, 25-21.
 
The two teams the battled back and forth in the final two sets, but Salisbury pulled away for the straight-set victory after winning by scores of 25-17 and 25-18.
 
Moss had a team-high seven kills, while Johnson tallied six. Moss also recorded a match-high five blocks.
 
"Both matches were hard-fought," Head Coach Kaci Pike said. "We heightened our level of play in each set.
 
"The energy level and resilience the team demonstrated give us confidence moving into tomorrow. We are still working to get our offense more consistent."
