Long Ball Sails Pride Past Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team swept the Quakers of Guilford College in a non-conference double-header by identical 11-2 scores.

Greensboro struck for five first-inning runs in Game 1. Sarah Tompkins and Sarah Connolly each recorded RBI singles.

After establishing that lead, the Pride outscored the Quakers 6-2 over the final four innings to secure the win. Tompkins recorded her second RBI single of the day during the run, while Connolly plated three runs with her second long ball the season. Nicole Wallace hit her first career home run to cap off the Greensboro scoring in the fifth inning.

Kali Puckett, Tompkins, Connolly, and Brittany Rush each recorded two hits, while Dawn Harris recorded the win.

The Pride then jumped on top quickly in Game 2 as well with Connolly clubbing a grand slam over the left-field wall.

Greensboro added three runs in the second inning before Allyson Yeager hit a three-run shot of her own in the third inning.

Guilford scored its two runs in the fourth inning, but the Pride held on for the nine-run victory.

Yeager recorded a team-high three hits, while Madison Crisco, Tompkins, and Connolly each had two hits. Maddy Wetherholt picked up the win.

"We came out of the gate fast today," Interim Head Coach Denzel Wallace said. "Our bats have been showing signs of coming around, and we are playing sound defense."

The Pride will return to the diamond at 1 p.m. Saturday when the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin come into town for a USA South double-header. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
