DEMOREST, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team spilt a USA South set with the Lions of Piedmont College Sunday.
Piedmont scored three times in the seventh inning to win Game 1, 6-5, before the Pride held on to win Game 2, 6-4.
The Lions scored one run in the first inning of Game 1 but
Sarah Tompkins hit her second home run in the second inning to tie the game.
Piedmont then retook the lead with two runs in the second before Greensboro scored the game's next four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Brittany Rush,
Dawn Harris,
Alexis Hall, and
Sarah Connolly each recorded one RBI.
However, the Lions scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the one run victory.
Allyson Yeager, Connolly, Tompkins, and Harris each had two hits, while Rush and Hall had one hit.
Maddy Wetherholt took the loss.
Greensboro struck for two runs early in Game 2 as Yeager hit a home run to left center to score
Kali Puckett.
The Pride held its two run advantage until the fifth inning when they added two more runs before the Lions pulled within 4-3. Tompkins hit her second long ball of the day to get the scoring started for the Pride, while Hall recorded a RBI single to center field.
After the Lions pulled to within one, Greensboro struck for two more runs before securing to victory.
Yeager, Tompkins, Rush, and Connolly each had a team-high two hits, while
Madison Crisco, and Hall had one hit. Wetherholt picked up the win.
"We came out strong today and played fundamentally sound softball," Interim Head Coach
Denzel Wallace said. "We got contributions from all positions and I am proud of the fight that our team showed."
