LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team split a USA South double-header with the Scots of Covenant College Saturday, winning Game 1 6-0 before falling 7-3 in Game 2.
Greensboro scored its first run in the third inning when
Sarah Tompkins plated
Kali Puckett with a single up the middle.
Brittany Rush extended the Pride lead with an RBI single in the fifth inning before Nicole Wallace recorded an RBI double in the sixth inning. Two batters later,
Madison Crisco recorded two RBIs to push the Pride advantage to 5-0.
In the team's final trip to the plate,
Sarah Connolly scored on a triple by
Alexis Hall.
Crisco and Hall each had two hits, while Puckett,
Allyson Yeager, Tompkins, and Rush each had one hit.
Dawn Harris picked up the win.
The Scots then jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the second inning of Game 2.
Greensboro took a 3-1 lead after scoring two runs in the third inning before adding another in the fourth inning. Puckett, Crisco, and Tompkins each recorded RBI hits.
However, Covenant scored the game's final six runs to secure the victory.
Puckett recorded a team-high three hits, while Tompkins added two hits.
Maddy Wetherholt took the loss for the Pride.
"We started out well in the first game before struggling to capitalize on our opportunities in Game 2," Interim Head Coach
Denzel Wallace said. "We have to rebound quickly as we have a really tough set tomorrow against Piedmont."
