MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Greensboro College softball team went 2-1 on Tuesday, Day 2 of the 2016 Fast Pitch Dreams Classic.
The Pride (10-5) defeated Saint Elizabeth 9-1 to open the day before falling to Gettysburg College, 3-2. Greensboro then closed out the day with a 7-0 victory over Penn State Harrisburg.
In the first game, Saint Elizabeth scored the first run before the Pride struck for nine unanswered runs.
Sarah Tompkins,
Kali Puckett, Nicole Wallace,
Alexis Hall, and
Madison Crisco each had RBI hits.
Crisco and Tompkins each had three hits, while Wallace recorded two hits.
Maddy Wetherholt, who recorded 10 strikeouts, picked up the win, pitching all six innings.
Following its win against Saint Elizabeth, the Pride fell in a tightly contested game to Gettysburg .
Allyson Yeager gave Greensboro a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single before extending the margin to 2-0 with another single in the third inning.
However, the Bullets scored the next three runs to secure the victory.
Brittany Rush and Yeager finished with a team-high two hits.
Alexis Hall and Puckett recorded one hit, while
Dawn Harris took the loss in the pitching circle.
The Pride then dominated the Lions of Penn State Harrisburg, 7-0.
Greensboro recorded 11 hits. Rush finished with a team-high four hits, while
Sarah Connolly added two hits.
Maddy Wetherholt pitched her second complete game of the day to earn the win.
"I feel that our pitching was great today," Interim Head Coach
Denzel Wallace said. "Even though we only have a two pitcher rotation, the team is always behind them no matter who is pitching.
"The team is coming together at the right time, and they are starting to put everything into place, as we hope to continue this upward into conference play."
