GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split a double-header with Eastern Mennonite Sunday.
The Pride (5-4) dropped the opening game 5-4 before taking the second game 6-4.
The Royals (1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 1 before
Sarah Connolly doubled home
Alexis Hall for the Pride's first run.
EMU answered with one run in the fourth inning. However, Greensboro struck with two runs in the inning to pull within 4-3. Kierstin McKenna and Alyson Yeager came across the plate for the Pride.
McKenna then singled home
Courtney Bode to tie game, but the Royals scored one run in the seventh inning to take the victory.
Madison Crisco and Connolly each had a team-high two hits, while
Sarah Tompkins, Nicole Wallace, McKenna, Hall, and Yeager each recorded one hit.
Maddy Wetherholt took the loss, pitching all seven innings.
Greensboro struck first in Game 2 as Brittany Rush singled home Connolly.
The Royals then scored one run in each of the next two innings, but Rush homered in the third inning to tie the game at 2.
Eastern Mennonite pulled out in front once again with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Pride posted a four-run sixth to take the 6-4 victory.
Mandi Ballard,
Kali Puckett, Yeager, and Wallace each had RBI singles.
Rush finished with a team-high three hits, while Yeager and Wallace each had two hits.
Dawn Harris picked up her second win of the season after pitching all seven innings.
