Pride Women End Five Year Drought With Victory Over Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Natalie Ritchey tallied a team-high seven points as the Pride women's lacrosse team defeated its cross-town rival, Guilford College, 16-10, for the first time since 2011.

Greensboro (9-3) jumped on top 2-0 early following goals by Ritchey and Ashlynn Parks before the Quakers (3-5) knotted the score four minutes later.

The Pride regained the lead following a goal Kirstin Norris, but Guilford answered with two more goals to take a 4-3 lead.

However, Greensboro outscored the Quakers 7-2 over the final 16 minutes of the half to take a 10-6 halftime lead. Alexa Besch and Norris each had two goals during the run, while Parks, Amira Khatib, and Ritchey each had one goal.

Guilford struck first in the second half before Greensboro extended its margin to 13-7 following three unanswered goals.

The Quakers and the Pride each scored three goals over the final 13 minutes as Greensboro came away with the six-goal victory.

"I am proud of these ladies as we broke a long streak against Guilford," Head Coach Christie Hebert said. "We were up most of the game and were able to feed off that momentum. We are continuing to progress in the right direction every day."

Norris finished with five goals, while Ritchey had four goals and three assists. Besch, Khatib, and Parks each had two goals. Kaleigh Hemstock picked up the win in goal after making nine saves.

The Pride women will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day against Ferrum College. For more information on Greensboro College women's lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
