FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team swept the Monarchs of Methodist University in a USA South Athletic Conference double-header Sunday.
The Pride (14-10, 3-5 USA South) took game 1, 8-0, in six innings before winning game 2, 6-4.
Greensboro jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 1 with three runs in the first inning.
Allyson Yeager singled to left field to score
Madison Crisco from third base.
Sarah Tompkins then plated
Kali Puckett with a sacrifice fly before Yeager came across the plate after a wild pitch.
The Pride scored the game's final five runs in the fifth inning.
Sarah Connolly scored Brittany Rush for the inning's first run before
Dawn Harris,
Alexis Hall, and Crisco recorded RBI hits.
Crisco, Tompkins, and Connolly each had a team-high two hits, while Yeager, Rush and Harris each had one hit. Harris also picked up the win after pitching all six innings.
Yeager got the Pride on the board first in Game 2, but the Monarchs plated four runs to take a 4-1 lead.
The Pride scored one run in the third inning before securing the victory with a four-run fifth inning. Greensboro got two runs on two MU errors before Nicole Wallace, Crisco, and Puckett recorded RBIs.
Puckett finished with a team-high three hits, while Yeager, Tompkins, and Wallace each had two hits.
Maddy Wetherholt picked up the win after pitching the final four innings in relief of Harris.
"Our offense took advantage of its opportunities," Interim Head Coach
Denzel Wallace said. "The girls did a great job of getting timely hits, while Dawn (Harris) threw nine strong innings before giving way to Maddy (Wetherholt) to finish the job."
