Pride Softball Drops A Pair Of USA South Games

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team dropped a pair of USA South Athletic Conference games to William Peace University Saturday, one of them a no-hitter.

The Pride (11-7, 0-2 USA South) dropped Game 1, 9-0, before suffering a 10-6 defeat in Game 2.

Greensboro could not get anything going in the first game, as the Pacers (15-5, 5-1 USA South) held the Pride hitless.

Dawn Harris (4-4) took the loss for Greensboro.

The Pride then put up a strong fight in Game 2.

WPU scored the first three runs before Allyson Yeager plated Kali Puckett with an RBI groundout.

However, the Pacers extended their margin to 9-1 with seven runs in the third inning.

Greensboro scored four times in the fifth inning to pull within 10-5.  Yeager recorded her second RBI of the game when she doubled home Madison Crisco. Two batters later, Sarah Tompkins hit her first home run of the year to score Yeager and Sarah Connolly.

Alexis Hall walked with two outs in the sixth inning before coming around to score the final run of the game on a Yeager infield single.

Crisco finished with a team-high three hits, while Yeager and Tompkins each had two hits. Maddy Wetherholt (7-3) took the loss for Greensboro.

"We got off to a slow start in both games today and could not make the most of our chances," Interim Head Coach Denzel Wallace said. "The girls battled though every inning of both games, and I was extremely proud of the way they fought back in Game 2."

The Pride will return to the diamond at 1 p.m. Sunday when they host the Cougars of Averett University in another USA South Athletic Conference double-header. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com
