STAUNTON, Va. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team breezed past the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College Saturday, 82-50.
The Pride (11-8, 7-3 USA South) opened the game on an 18-2 run and did not look back.
Monica Smalls recorded six points during the span, while
Courtney Pearsall,
Marla Crawford,
Bryanna Stanton, and
Domonique McCoy tallied at least one bucket.
After leading 41-14 after the first period, Greensboro established its largest lead of the first half at 35-8, following a Stanton layup, before taking a 41-14 lead into halftime.
Greensboro opened the third period on a 12-3 run to gain its largest lead at 55-18, following a pair of free throws by
Shamara Richardson.
Alexis Hite,
Heather Burton, Crawford, and Pearsall each scored one basket during the run.
The Squirrels (0-19, 0-11 USA South) got no closer than 31 for the remainder of the game as the Pride secured the victory.
"All the girls played hard tonight, and it was a much-needed win for us," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "After being on the road for the past four games, it is going to be nice returning home."
All 14 players on the Greensboro College roster scored at least one basket.
Alexis Hite, who recorded a team-high 12 points, was the lone Pride player to record double digits. Smalls finished with nine points, while Crawford, Burton, Pearsall, and Stanton each tallied eight points. Smalls pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds, while Crawford passed for a team-leading six assists.
