CARY, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team concluded the 2016 Grand Slam Classic, hosted by William Peace University, Sunday with a two-game split.
 
The Pride topped the Spirits of Salem College 9-1 to open the day before falling to Berry College 7-3.
 
Salem (2-6) scored the first run of the game before Greensboro (5-3) used a five-run second inning to establish a 5-1 lead. Sarah Connolly plated two runs in the inning with a single, while Kali Puckett also singled home a run.
 
The Pride then tacked on the final four runs of the game in the fifth inning. Mandi Ballard recorded a walk with the bases loaded for the first run of the inning before Alexis Hall doubled in two runs.
 
Nicole Wallace had a team-high two hits in the game, while Brittany Rush, Allyson Yeager, Sarah Tompkins, Puckett, Connolly, and Hall combined for six hits. Maddy Wetherholt pitched another complete game to record her fourth win of the season.
 
In the second game, Berry (10-1) scored one run in the third inning before Tompkins plated Connolly with a double, tying the game.
 
The Vikings then scored six unanswered runs before Greensboro got its final two runs in the seventh inning.
 
Madison Crisco, Kali Puckett, Kierstin McKenna, Hall, and Tompkins each recorded hits. Dawn Harris, who pitched a complete game, took the loss for Greensboro.
