ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Simeon Howard scored a game-high 33 points, but the Pride men's basketball team fell to Covenant College 91-83 Friday in the USA South Conference Tournament semifinals.
With the game tied at 4, the Pride (16-11) used an 8-2 run to establish its largest lead of the game at 12-6. Howard accounted for six of the points, while Joseph Galtling, who had 22 points, recorded the other two.
Greensboro maintained its lead before the Scots (17-9) used a 25-6 run to take a 38-23 lead before going into halftime up 44-31.
Covenant then extended its lead to 17 before Greensboro pulled to within 54-47, following a 10-0 run. Gatling and Howard combined for seven points during the spurt before
Zedric Barnett hit a long three-pointer.
Greensboro fought hard for the remainder of the game but could not get any closer, falling by the eight-point margin.
"The game seemed to start off in our favor," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "After a strong start, we dug ourselves a hole and just could not recover. I am proud of our kids for fighting the whole game, but we just did not get the result that we wanted."
Howard also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Barnett finished with 10 points, while
Hamilton Hawkins dished out four assists.
