RALEIGH, N.C. – Donavan Griffith scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but the Greensboro College men's basketball team fell Saturday to William Peace University, 93-86.
The Pacers (11-14, 6-8 USA South) established a 14-point advantage midway through the first half, but the Pride (15-10, 9-5 USA South) used a 10-0 run to pull within 28-24.
Zedric Barnett hit two three-pointers during the run, while
Torrence Outing and
Christopher Corbin added one basket each.
The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half before Outing connected on a pair of free throws to give Greensboro a 44-43 halftime lead.
WPU regained the lead at 47-44 before establishing its largest lead of the game at 78-65.
Greensboro pulled to within five points in the final minutes but could not get any closer.
"We got off to a sluggish start and did not play focused defense," Associate Head Coach
Jim Cantamessa said. "In the second half we just could not get the stops that we needed to, and William Peace did a good job of shutting down the perimeter."
Joseph Gatling, who drained four three-pointers, finished with 17 points, while
Simeon Howard had 15 points.
Torrence Outing also finished in double figures with 12.
The Pride men will return to action at 1 p.m. Thursday against Piedmont College in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held on the campus of NC Wesleyan College. For the latest update on the Greensboro College men's basketball team, continue to follow
