GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Greensboro College men's lacrosse team opened its 2016 slate Saturday with an 8-6 victory over Lees McRae.
The Bobcats (0-1) tallied first just two minutes into the game before the Pride (1-0) ran off three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Joseph Stump,
Daniel Wolf, and
Lamar Jelks accounted for the goals, while
Jonathan Avedesian and
Jervon Speller each recorded an assist.
Lees McRae then scored three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
Avedesain tied the game in the third period with his first goal of the afternoon before he gave the Pride a 5-4 lead with his second goal.
Six minutes after Avedesain's second goal,
Gianni Gonzalez extended Greensboro's lead to 6-4 before the Bobcats tied the game at 6 with three minutes to play.
In the final minute, Jelks completed his hat trick to give Greensboro the 8-6 victory.
"I thought that our team played hard and battled the whole game," Head Coach
Mike Foderaro said. "It feels great to get the first win on the new Pride Field."
Ethan Danser picked up his first win in a Greensboro College uniform after recording 15 saves.
