GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking double-overtime defeat against Piedmont College Sunday, 93-85.
Piedmont (14-9, 6-6 USA South) took an early five-point lead before Greensboro (14-9, 8-4 USA South) went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-8 lead.
Donavan Griffith,
Simeon Howard, and
Parris Scales each scored two points during the run.
With the game tied at 26 with three minutes left in the half, rode a 7-2 run to a 33-28 halftime lead.
Greensboro maintained its lead throughout the second half until the Lions hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 68, forcing overtime.
After playing the first extra segment even, Piedmont pulled away in the second overtime to take the eight-point victory.
"It was a hard-fought game tonight," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "We just did not close out the game, and that was very disappointing."
Griffith (26 points, 11 rebounds), Scales (19 points, 15 rebounds), and Howard (23 points, 12 rebounds) each recorded a double-double.
