ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of the Roger Taylor Memorial Tournament, hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan College, Saturday by defeating the Burins of Bob Jones University, 87-63.
The two teams traded the lead five times over the first four minutes before the Pride (3-2) exploded on an 18-2 run to take a 26-11 lead.
Dominic Fumbanks fueled the run with a team-leading six points, while
Donavan Griffith added four points.
Darus Maddox,
Hamilton Hawkins,
Demetrius Tilley, and
Lorenzo Marry combined for the remaining eight points.
Bob Jones (2-9) kept the Pride from extending their margin until Greensboro closed out the half on a 15-6 run to take a 51-28 halftime lead. Much like first big Greensboro run, the Pride spread the ball around as
Torrance Outing,
Zedric Barnett, Maddox, Griffith, Tilley, and Hawkins each had at least one basket.
The Bruins then cut into the Greensboro lead over the first five minutes of the second half, but the Pride used an 18-5 run to establish its largest lead of the game at 80-51.
Greensboro did not look back for the remainder of the game as they cruised to the 24-point victory.
"Our defense was phenomenal the past two days," Head Coach
Bryan Galuski said. "I am really proud of how hard our guys played.
Following the game, Gatling and Griffith were named to the All-Tournament team.
Griffith finished with a game-high 16 points, while Fumbanks tallied 13 points. Maddox also recorded double figure points with 12. Tilley hauled in a team-high seven rebounds on the night.
