GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College volleyball team extended its USA South Athletic Conference winning streak to six matches Wednesday with a victory over Mary Baldwin University, 3-0.
The Pride (15-6, 7-2 USA South) defeated the Squirrels by scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-21.
Greensboro raced out to an early 8-3 lead In Set 1, forcing Mary Baldwin (4-15, 1-8 USA South) to use its first timeout of the set. The run was aided my three Squirrels attacking errors, while
Brandy Johnson and
Emily Horn had one kill each.
Following the timeout, the Pride continued its run before going on to take a 1-0 lead following a 25-15 victory.
After taking Set 1, the two teams traded points back and forth early in Set 2 before Greensboro established a 13-6 advantage following a 6-1 run.
Rachel Suttee recorded two service aces during the stretch, while Horn tallied two kills.
The Pride then pulled away to win the set 25-15, taking a 2-0 lead.
Despite struggling early in Set 3, Greensboro then went on to win the match 3-0, following a 25-21win.
"Today was a total team effort as we were able to get everyone involved," Head Coach
Kaci Pike said. "We will continue to work hard as we get prepared for our next conference match Sunday."
Brandy Johnson had a team-high nine kills, while
Meredith Summers had five kills. Horn and
Samantha Kirschner added four kills each.
Katie Clark and
Darrian Bolt combined for 22 assists.
