GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College baseball team (8-13) hosted cross town rival Guilford College (6-14) at Newbridge Bank Park on Monday night. The Pride took an early, 1-0, lead but came up short falling by a 2-1 mark.
After a scoreless first three innings of play, Greensboro was able to push their lone run across the plate in the bottom half of the fourth inning. James Wilkins led the inning off with a double to the left center field gap before being plated by Brian Robbett with double of his own giving Greensboro the, 1-0, lead.
The score would remain in the Pride's favor until the top half of the eighth inning when the Quakers were able to push two run across taking a 2-1.
Greensboro was able to get runners on base in both the last two innings but could not find the equalizer.
Kristopher Peeden started the game for the Pride on the mound and went seven innings of shutout baseball while only surrendering one hit. Will McGuire took the loss on the mound after giving up two unearned runs. Dustin Minnick tossed the final two innings of play while striking out three Quakers.
Greensboro College outhit Guilford 5-3 in the game. Gwynn Thompson, Kyle Willard, Brian Robbett, James Wilkins, and Jordan Powell each recorded one hit.
