FERRUM, VA – The Greensboro College softball team (14-18, 7-9 USAS) traveled on the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Panthers of Ferrum College in a USA South Athletic Conference double header. The Pride took the first game of the two game set by a score of 7-2 before suffering a 1-0 loss in the final game.
Greensboro jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after two innings of play.
In the first inning of play,
Madison Crisco plated
Kali Puckett to put Greensboro on top. Following a
Sarah Connollysingle,
Jackie Nicholson placed a single into center to push Crisco across the plate before Connolly made the score 3-0 after scoring on a Panthers miscue.
After shutting down Ferrum in the bottom half the inning, the Pride was able to score their final four runs of the game.
Madison Crisco tripled home Brittany Rush for the first run of the inning before
Jackie Nicholson doubled home
Allyson Yeager and
Sarah Connolly to push the lead to 7-0.
Greensboro was then able to keep the Panthers off the board until the bottom half of the sixth inning before closing them out for the 7-2 victory.
Sarah Connolly and
Jackie Nicholson recorded three hits in the game while
Kali Puckett, Brittany Rush,
Madison Crisco, and
Sarah Tompkins collected two hits.
Dawn Harris picked up the win in the pitching circle.
In the second game of the day, Greensboro could not get anything going falling by a 1-0 score.
