Long Ball Helps Softball Sweep Visiting Mary Baldwin

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College softball team (13-17, 6-8 USAS) snapped a seven game losing skid on Friday afternoon. The Pride topped the visiting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin in game one 12-9 before taking game two 16-9.

Mary Baldwin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the Greensboro bats came alive in the bottom half of the first inning. Greensboro plated eleven runs on eight hits taking a 11-2 lead. Allyson Yeager plated the first three runs with a triple before Madison Crisco recorded three RBIs of her own. Later in the inning following a RBI single by Sarah Connolly, Allyson Yeager recorded her second extra base hit of the inning resulting in her fourth RBI.

Over the course of the remainder of the game, Greensboro was able to score one more run following another hit by Yeager. The Pride then went on to win the game 12-9.

Kali Puckett, Brittany Rush, and Madison Crisco each recoded multiple hits. Greensboro finished the game with 14 total hits. Dawn Harris (5-7) picked up the win after tossing the first five innings before Lauren Millercompleted the game with the final two innings.
 

In the second game of the day, Greensboro used the long ball to take a 6-2 lead through the first inning of play. After a pair of singles to open the inning, Madison Crisco blasted a shot deep center field to put the Pride on top 3-2. Following the Crisco long ball, Allyson Yeager plated Sarah Connolly from second base extending the advantage to 4-2. The Pride's next batter, Jackie Nicholson, sent another blast over the outfield wall making the score 6-2.

Once the Squirrels pulled to within 6-4 with two runs in the visiting half of the second inning, the Pride responded back with six runs of the next two innings to take a 12-4 lead. Later in the game with Greensboro leading 14-9, the Pride scored the game's final two runs of the game to come away with the 16-9 victory.

Yeager, Puckett, and Brittany Rush led the way with three hits in the contest while Madison Crisco and Alexis Hall recorded two hits apiece. Shelby Drummonds picked up the win in the circle tossing the full seven innings while recording four strikeouts.
