Softball Drops Two Games To Huntingdon On Saturday Afternoon

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Greensboro College softball team (11-12, 4-5 USAS) traveled to take on the Hawks of Huntingdon College (11-10, 6-5 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in a USA South Athletic Conference double header. The Pride fell in the first game of the day in eight innings, 4-3, before suffering an 8-6 loss in game two.

In the first game of the day, Huntingdon was able to jump on top early 3-0 heading into the fourth inning of play.

In the top half of the fourth inning, Madison Crisco led off the inning with a double to right center field before advancing to third base on a wild pitch. Greensboro was then able to score Crisco from third following a sacrifice fly by Allyson Yeager making the score 3-1.

The score would remain the same until the Pride was able to score runs in the top half of the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 3-3. Brittany Rush singled home Hayley Rumley in the sixth inning before Yeager plated Sarah Connolly with a double in the seventh inning of play.

With the game tied at 3-3, the Hawks were able to score in the bottom half of the eighth inning to win 4-3.

Greensboro was able to pound out ten hits in the game. Sarah Connolly, Madison Crisco, and Allyson Yeager each recorded two hits to lead the Pride while Kali PuckettAlexis Hall, Hayley Rumley, and Brittany Rush each accounted for one hit.

Dawn Harris took the loss for the Pride despite tossing the full game.
 

In the top half of the first inning in game two, the Pride was able to establish a early 3-0 lead. Madison Crisco got the Pride on the board when her single trough the right side plated Puckett before Yeager and Rumley each recorded bases loaded walks making the score 3-0.

Once Greensboro established the lead, Huntingdon then scored the game's next eight runs taking a 8-3 lead into the sixth inning of play.

In the sixth inning, Ashlee Miller continued her strong play at the plate of late as she cut the deficit down to four runs at 8-4 with an RBI single through the left side. After the Miller single, Sarah Connolly picked up another RBI on the day cutting the Hawks lead down to three at 8-5.

Greensboro was then able to push one final run across the plate in the seventh inning but could not come away with the win falling 8-6.

Jackie Nicholson took the loss in the pitching circle for the Pride. Greensboro College was able to record two hits in the second game with Yeager leading the way with two.
