SALEM, VA – The Greensboro College softball team traveled to take on the Maroons of Roanoke College on Tuesday evening. The Pride fell in game one of the double header, 5-1, before falling in the night cap by a 5-4 margin.
Hailey Rumley plated the only RBI for the Pride in game one while Dawn Harris took the loss in the pitching circle.
Greensboro collected eight hits in the opening game of the two game set. Kahli Puckett and Brittany rush each recorded two hits.
In the second game of the double dip Roanoke jumped out to an early 4-0 lead when they plated four runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
However, Hailey Rumley blasted a grand slam to tie the game in the top half of the second inning scoring Jackie Nicholson, Allyson Yeager, and Madison Crisco.
The score would remain tied until Roanoke pushed the game's final run across the plate in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
Lauren Miller took the loss tossing 5.1 innings while recording four strikeouts. Senior Shelby Drummonds accounted for the other two thirds of an inning.
Haley Rumley collected two of Greensboro's seven hits in the game highlighted by her first career grand slam. Alexis Hall and Madison Crisco also recorded two hits.
"We had several opportunities to score runs today but we could not capitalize," stated Pride Head Coach Becky Bishop. "The bats woke up for us in the second game but we came up just short against a tough Roanoke team."
