ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Greensboro College Pride softball team returned to the softball diamond for the second consecutive day on Sunday afternoon. The Pride traveled to take on the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College in USA South Athletic Conference action. The Pride rallied late in game one to win, 8-7, before completing the double dip sweep with a, 10-6, victory in game two.
In the first game of the day, Wesleyan jumped on top of the Pride 7-0 with seven runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning of play.
Greensboro then scored the game's next eight runs to come away with the one run victory.
Sophomore Ashlee Miller got the Pride on the board in the top half of the sixth inning when her single to left field plated Madison Crisco and Allyson Yeager cutting the deficit to 7-2. The next batter for Greensboro, Sarah Tompkins, scored Hailey Hanrahan and Evan Sherer to pull within three runs at 7-4 before the Pride was able to push one more run across the plate making the score 7-5.
In the top half of the eighth inning of play Jackie Nicholson, Sarah Connolly, and Madison Crisco each scored to put the Pride on top of the Bishops 8-7.
Dawn Harris proceeded to shut down the home standing Bishops in the seventh inning to preserve the one run victory.
Sarah Connolly, Allyson Yeager, and Madison each accounted for two hits in game one. Ashlee Miller and Sarah Tompkins recorded two RBIs apiece.
In the back end of the twin bill, Greensboro jumped out to a 5-3 lead through the first four innings of play. Allyson Yeager, Kali Puckett, Madison Crisco, and Hayley Rumley each recorded at least one RBI during the four inning of span.
The Pride then outscored Wesleyan over the game's final three innings of play, 5-3, to secure the victory and the two game sweep.
Shelby Drummonds picked up the win the circle for the Pride tossing the complete seven innings of play.
With the two game sweep, Greensboro improves their overall record to 9-5 on the season and 3-3 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on the Maroons of Roanoke College. The first pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
