DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College Pride men's basketball team saw their 2014-15 season come to an end in the quarter-final round on the USA South Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. The fifth seeded Pride fell to the fourth seeded Scots of Maryville College by an 81-71 score.
Maryville opened the game on a 10-0 run over the first three minutes of the game before senior Raheem Martin drained a long three to get the Pride to within seven points at 10-3.
Midway through the first period of play, Greensboro found themselves in a fifteen point hole at 21-6 before they were able to pull within nine points at 21-12 following a 6-0 run. The 6-0 run was compiled by three sets of free throws by Parris Scales and Simeon Howard.
Later in the period, the Pride was able to cut the deficit to five points at 26-21 following two straight treys by Howard, but the Scots were able to pull away once more taking a 36-24 lead into the break.
In the second half of play, Greensboro was able to cut the deficit down to seven points at 39-32 following an old fashion three point play by Edric Roberts.
After the Pride cut the large deficit down to seven points, Maryville was able to hold on to end Greensboro's season 81-71 despite 17 second half points by Will Griffin.
Simeon Howard led the way in the contest for the Pride with 21 points while Will Griffin and Raheem Martin recorded double figures as well. Martin also led Greensboro in the rebound category with nine with Parris Scales pulling down six.
