GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College men's basketball team returned to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Cougars of Averett University. Despite overcoming a first half deficit, the Pride men fell by a narrow, 74-71, margin.
In the first half of play, Averett took their largest lead of the game at 29-19 with just over four minutes to play in the period.
After facing the ten point deficit, Greensboro was able to pull within two points at 29-27 following an 8-0 run over the span of forty seconds. Brandon Pascucci connected with his first three ball of the day to get the run started before draining his second to end the run.
Once the Pride pulled to within two points, Averett was able to extend their margin back to seven points. Just before the end of the first half, Lorenzo Marry took a feed from Simeon Howard to send Greensboro into the break trailing 38-35.
Coming out of the intermission period, the Pride was able to tie the game for a second time at 42-42 just four minutes into the new frame.
With the game tied, 60-60, just eight minutes later Greensboro was able to jump out in front of the Cougars 67-60 following another 7-0 run. During the run Edric Roberts, Brandon Pascucci, and Simeon Howard each recorded a basket for the Pride.
Greensboro was able to stay on top of Averett until the Cougars were able to score the final three points of the game to drop the Pride 74-41.
"We played hard tonight but we did not make the correct decisions in the game that needs to be made to win a college basketball," Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game.
Parris Scales led the way for the Pride on the night with twelve points while Edric Roberts and Simeon Howard each tallied eleven points. Howard also pulled down a team high eleven rebounds with Scales chipping in nine.
With the loss, the Pride men fall to 14-10 overall and 7-6 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride men will wrap up their regular season on Sunday afternoon when the Pacers of William Peace University come to town. Prior to the start of the 1:00 PM game, the Pride will recognize seniors Raheem Martin and Will Griffin.
