GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men's soccer team fell 2-1 Saturday to the Monarchs of Methodist University in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
Methodist held a 2-0 lead until the 85
th minute of play, when
Craig Gage scored off an assist from
Shaun Watt.
Over the final five minutes, Greensboro had some opportunities to find the equalizer but could not convert.
"I am proud of the boys and the season they put together," Head Coach
Tony Falvino said. "They showed tremendous character and growth as individuals and as a team. I would like to thank all of the seniors for their time here at Greensboro College.
"We played with a lot of spirit and tried to play our style of soccer all year. Unfortunately, we fell a little short today as Methodist was able to capitalize on their chances and we didn't."
Robbie Barnes,
Shaun Watt, and
Craig Gage each recorded one shot. Despite making four saves,
Jaime Payamps took the loss in goal.
Following the contest,
Liam Buckley,
Carlos Barragan,
Scott Fatyol, and Watt were named to the All-Tournament Team.
