LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Greensboro College women's basketball team (1-3) fell to Kenyon College (5-1) 61-52 Sunday at the Pat Deacon Classic hosted by Transylvania University.
Greensboro fell behind early, used a 7-0 run to take a 14-11 lead at the beginning of the second period. De Jah Joyner, who scored a game-high 18 points, scored the first six points of the run before
Kamerin Williams capped it off with a free throw.
After tying the game following the Pride run, Kenyon went into the break with a 28-21 lead.
Kenyon then took its largest lead of the game at 52-36 midway through the final period, but Greensboro climbed to within 53-46 following a 10-1 run.
Marla Crawford hit her final three-pointer of the day before going a perfect four-of-four from the free-throw line.
For the reminder of the contest, the Pride could pull no closer, falling by the nine-point margin.
"We saw some improvement today, but we still are not putting four periods together," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "We will continue to push forward. I thought Marla and De Jah had a very good game, but we cannot win with just two players."
Crawford joined Joyner in double figures with 13 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and seven assists.
Kamerin Williams finished with nine points and seven boards.
Following the contest, De Jah Joyner was named to the Pat Deacon Classic All-Tournamnet team.
The Pride women will return to the hardwood at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Wasps of Emory & Henry College in Hanes Gymnasium. For the latest on the Pride women's basketball team, continue to follow
