GREENSBORO, NC – Simeon Howard scored a game high twenty-six points on Saturday afternoon, as the Pride men topped the Monarchs of Methodist University 86-69.
Trailing 22-21 with 6:42 left in the first half of play, the Pride was able to outscore the Monarchs by a 20-8 margin to go into the break up 41-31. During the large run for the Pride, Brandon Pascucci and Simeon Howard each recorded a shot from long range while Parris Scales and Joseph Gatling chipped in a combined six points.
After the intermission period, the Pride took their largest lead of the game at 56-34 just eight minutes into the frame following another two point basket by Scales.
Over the course of the final twelve minutes of play, the Monarchs would not get any closer than nine points at 73-64 before the Pride pulled away for the seventeen point victory.
Joseph Gatling and Raheem Martin also chipped in ten and eleven points each. Pride sophomore forward scored thirteen points all in the second half to join his three other Greensboro teammates in double figures.
Roberts and Howard recorded a team high eight rebounds on the day while Hamilton Hawkins, Martin, and Scales added four a piece.
Greensboro College also recorded 24 assists while only committing ten turnovers. Hawkins led the way for Greensboro with nine assists in the game.
"To have four players to score in double figures with twenty-four assists and only ten turnovers is outstanding," Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game. "I felt that our defensive effort was very good again tonight, but I cannot say enough about the play of Hamilton (Hawkins) and Edric (Roberts) tonight. Both of those guys were outstanding for us throughout the whole game, and this was another game for us to build on."
With the win, the Pride men move their overall record to 11-6 while improving to 4-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride men will return to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court on Wednesday night when the Panthers of Ferrum College come to town. The game is set to get underway at 7:00 PM.
