Pride Football Falls to Guilford in Season Opener

The Greensboro college football team kicked off their 2014 campaign with a 52-0 loss to Guilford College on Saturday evening.

Guilford struck first with a touchdown taking a 7-0 lead and the score remained the same at the end of the first quarter. The Quakers tacked on three touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter pushing their lead out to 31-0 going into halftime.

Coming out of the half the Quakers struck again extending the margin to 38-0 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Guilford added to the lead with pair touchdowns to win the game 52-0.

On offense Mac Graham had 106 yards while Ryan Throndset threw for 70 yards. On the ground Warren Scott Jr had 45 yards, while Raymond Jackson contributed 26. Raymond Bridges recorded 71 yards on three receptions. Tyler Fearrington also had six receptions for 38 yards.

The defense was paced by Woolly Souffrance, Sam Parker, and Peter Ugone with a tackle for loss. Mart Grinton, Herbert Bridges, and Torian Patterson had six tackles.

The annual soup bowl produced a total of 7,504 canned goods between the two teams. The Pride had Chase Sams named MVP of the team with his 17 tackles on 6 solo and 11 assisted.

 The Pride will look to regroup when they travel to Bridgewater University. The kickoff is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
