Pride Volleyball Drops 3-2 Decision Against Panthers

FERRUM, Va.—The Greensboro College Pride volleyball team returned to the court on Thursday night against the Panthers of Ferrum College. The Pride fell in the contest by a 3-2 score.

Ferrum College won the first set of the match 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead, but Greensboro College was able to win the second set to even the match at 1-1.

The Pride jumped out to an early 7-5 lead in the set and would not look back. Greensboro took their largest lead of the set at 17-9 before closing out the set on a 6-2 run winning 25-20.

After Greensboro College tied the match at 1-1, Ferrum College was able to come back to take a 2-1 lead forcing the Pride into a must win fourth set.

The Pride started out strong in the fourth set scoring the first three points to take a 3-0 lead. Once Greensboro jumped out the three point lead, the two teams traded points back and forth until the Panthers tied the set at 12-12. Once the Panthers pulled even, Greensboro College was able to pull away after a 7-2 run winning 25-18 to force a decisive fifth set.

Greensboro College continued to play hard but fell in the fifth set 16-14 and the match 3-2.

Megan Baranko led the Pride  with 17 kills while Liz Widenhouse was not far behind with 15. Dallas Hasty also added 10 kills. Bari Tressler and Darrian Bolt each recorded 24 assists.

Breana Baker collected 21 defensive digs in the match while Holly Anders recorded 13.

With the loss, the Pride's overall record falls to 14-12 and 6-8 in USA South play. The Greensboro College volleyball team will return to Hanes Gymnasium this Saturday as they welcome LaGrange College and Huntingdon College to town. The match against Huntingdon will get underway at 10:00 AM while the matchup with LaGrange is slated for 4:00 PM.
