CARY, N.C—The Greensboro College Pride women's soccer team (7-5-1, 5-2-1 USAS) hit the road on Wednesday night to take on the Pacers of William Peace University (3-11-1, 1-7-0 USAS). The Pride was able to pull away down the stretch to secure a 2-0 victory.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half of play before Greensboro College broke the game open in the second half.
Just three minutes into the second period of play, the Pride was awarded a free kick and was able to capitalize on the opportunity. Elizabeth Torres was able to find the streaking Allison Gibson who found the net putting the Pride up 1-0.
Later in the period, Alannah Haggerty scored the game's final goal to give the Pride the 2-0 victory.
Greensboro College held a commanding 25-4 advantage in the shot category with 15 of the being on the frame of goal. Allison Gibson led the team in shots with five while Keegan Bickel contributed three shots.
Jessica Thatcher picked up the win for the Pride in goal.
The Pride women's soccer team will return to Pride field on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Panthers of Ferrum College to town. Prior to the start of the contest, the Pride will honor their two seniors on this year's team.
