Pride Volleyball Suffers A Pair of Conference Defeats

MARYVILLE, TN—The Greensboro College volleyball team continued conference play on the road Saturday afternoon at Maryville College. The Pride fell against Covenant College 3-0 in their first match of the day before falling to host Maryville College in straight sets as well.

In the first match of the day against Covenant, Greensboro College was led by Shayla Moss with five kills while senior Liz Widenhouse recorded four kills. Darrian Bolt passed seven assists in the match while her Pride teammate Bari Tressler passed for four assists.

After falling to Covenant, Greensboro College then matched up against the Scots of Maryville College. The Pride fell by scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 25-20.

In the first set against Maryville, Greensboro College used a 4-0 to take their first lead of the set at 6-5. Once Greensboro College took the one point lead in the set, the Scots then came back to take control of the set winning 25-16.

Maryville then went on to win the second set 25-12 forcing the match into a must win third set for the Pride.

In the third set Greensboro College did not go down easy. Trailing early in the set 3-2, Greensboro College was able to record ten of the next seventeen points to take a 13-9. However, Maryville was able to respond right back to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

Widenhouse led Greensboro in the second match with seven kills to go along with four kills by Megan Baranko and Shayla Moss. Bolt once again led the Pride in assists with 11.

Widenhouse and Holly Anders each accounted for 12 digs in the match.

 Greensboro College's overall record falls to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in conference play. The Pride volleyball team will return to action on Tueseday night when the travel to William Peace. The first serve is set for 7:00 PM.
