Hutchinson, a junior from Candler, N.C., has opened his season on fire for the Pride wrestling team. Hutchinson has only two losses through his first 17 bouts of the season and is currently ranked 13th in the nation in the 197-lb class.
Hutchinson opened the season with a fourth-place finish at the Ithaca College invitational before recording a major decision victory at NCAA Division I member Davidson College.
Hutchinson then recorded the program’s first-ever individual championship at the Southern Virginia Open three days later. Following his open victory, Hutchinson went a perfect 4-0 at the Mount Union Duals before winning the Messiah Invitational. During his championship run at Messiah, Hutchinson knocked off the 10th-ranked wrestler in NCAA Division III.
“This is a great honor for Kacee and our program,” Head Wrestling Coach Erik Wince said. “He has waited almost an entire year to step on the mat in a Greensboro College singlet, and he is making it count.
“He is a diligent worker who holds himself to an incredibly high standard, and he is wrestling up to that standard. He has a chance at earning All-America status this year, and people have finally realized this around the country as he just earned a top-15 ranking. The sky is the limit for this young man.”
