Greensboro College has added Kendrick Fruits to their staff as the Assistant Director of Sports Information. As such, Fruits will assist SID Stephen Widenhouse in day-to-day operations of the sports information office, including website content, social media content, broadcast and streaming, features and player profiles, statistical and record keeping documentation, as well as the creation of audio and video elements to be used by the college and various athletic programs.
A 2016 graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in Electronic Media/Broadcasting, Fruits began his professional career in the ranks of Minor League Baseball, serving as a Media Relations intern for the then-Rookie level Danville Braves of the Appalachian League. From there, he stepped outside the world of sports and spent the next few years as a substitute teacher in his hometown Davie County Schools system, and then as a production assistant at WXII Channel 12 News.
In the summer of 2019, an opportunity arose to return to sports, and he joined the fledgling High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball as a broadcaster and media relations assistant. He spent parts of four years there, helping chronicle the first seasons of one of the Atlantic League’s newest teams. While at High Point, Fruits was on the microphone for many memorable moments, such as the team’s first playoff game in 2019 and their first Championship Series berth in 2022. After leaving the Rockers, he spent two years as a studio host for Learfield Sports, serving as a board-op and on-air talent for NCAA radio broadcasts, most notably with Syracuse University in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He lives in Winston-Salem with his wife, Alyssa, and two-year old son, Keller.
“I am very thankful and excited for this tremendous opportunity. There are so many incredible student-athletes here that have amazing stories to tell and I want to help tell those stories. Greensboro College has a rich and storied history, of which I am now humbled to be a part of, and I can’t wait to help write the next chapter. As our student-athletes continue to excel in their sports, I want to match their excellence in the presentations of those sports and build up the media department to be all it can be. It is an honor to represent our students and this school. I am extremely grateful to Stephen Widenhouse and Jerry Fisk for this opportunity.”
"We are very excited to add Kendrick to the Greensboro Athletics family as the Assistant Director of Sports Information," Director of Sports Information Stephen Widenhouse said. "Being able to add Kendrick and his experience is a major asset to our athletic department and we look forward to having Kendrick tell the stories of our coaches and athletes, enhance our live stream experience, and our overall content and marketing of Greensboro College Athletics."
