Korey McCulley enters his 2nd season leading the Men's and Women's Swimming teams at Greensboro College. A 2007 graduate of Butler University (IN), McCulley was a four-year varsity swimmer for the Bulldogs. In his final season of competition, he was selected to be a Senior Captain and left Butler as a school record holder. McCulley's coaching career began early while still an undergraduate, working with local Indianapolis USAS club teams and summer league teams. Immediately following graduation, McCulley served as an assistant coach for his alma mater at BU, and as an age group coach for the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers. In 2010, Korey moved to Roanoke, VA for a six-year run as a National/Senior/Pre-Senior Group Coach for the Virginia Gators, with his athletes achieving abundant success at the state and national levels.
In August of 2016, he moved to North Carolina to start the Greensboro chapter of the Enfinity Aquatic Club, serving as Site Director and Head Coach. At Enfinity, Coach McCulley has guided USAS Junior National champions, Futures and Sectionals champions, State and Regional champions, 18&U top 100 world ranked swimmers, USAS Olympic Team Trials qualifiers, and one Junior Pan Pacific champion. McCulley helped design and implement vision and strategy platforms to qualify the Enfinity Aquatic Club as a four-time USA Swimming Silver Medal Club designee (top 100 in the US) in the national 'Club Excellence Program.
As an entrepreneur in the swimming industry, McCulley became a Founder and Original Board Member for the Triad Amateur Swim Association (NC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit to raise funds to provide scholarships to underprivileged swimmers in the Piedmont Triad communities. Simultaneous to that initiative, McCulley became the Founder and Co-Owner of the Umbrella Aquatic Group, a business assisting with pool management in the Greater Piedmont Triad area. Coach McCulley looks to build on the work of his predecessors with the Greensboro College swim program while capitalizing on his experience and resources he has cultivated in his time in the Greater Greensboro community.
In making the announcement, Dr. Lawrence Czarda, President of Greensboro College, remarked that '…Korey is an exceptional talent and has been highly influential in developing swim programming in the Piedmont Triad area. We are confident in his ability to inspire and develop student-athletes and we're pleased to add Korey to our athletics staff." Director of Athletics Kim Strable also noted that "…we are indeed very happy to welcome a professional like Korey to our staff and leading our swim programs going forward. He relates extremely well with college athletes and has also demonstrated some remarkable savvy in managing multiple enterprises through the years."
In reflecting upon his appointment as head coach for the Men's and Women's Swim teams, McCulley expressed, "I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to lead the Men's and Women's Pride Swimming program into a new era. I have been a long-time peripheral supporter of the program and I am excited to take charge in building upon the legacy established by the coaches and athletes who have preceded me. Go Pride!"
