Raleigh, NC - The Greensboro College Softball team continued to add to the win column after sweeping their two games on Saturday at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic. The day began with a come from behind win over Oberlin College (OH), 4-2 and then the Pride followed that up with 7-1 victory of Acardia University (PA).
Game 1
The Yeowomen took an early lead after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, but after Junior
Ivy Ray (Thomasville, NC) got on base, Junior
Alexis Sox (Burlington, NC) came to the plate and singled to left field for the RBI, to cut the lead to 2-1. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth inning when Senior
Hannah French (Reidsville, NC) crossed home plate after an RBI single from Sophomore
Madison Dillner (Leicester, NC), to tie the game at 2-2. Greensboro would have a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and were able to get two runners a board. This set up a dramatic moment as Senior
Kassie Simmons (Gibonsville, NC) came to the plate and doubled to right center, scoring two runs, for the walk-off win, 4-2.
Ray led the Pride finishing 3-4 with 2 runs, while Simmons added 2 RBI's. On the mound, Junior
Lauren Engel (Hunterville, NC) pitched all seven innings, recording 2 strikeouts, while only giving up 4 hits.
Game 2
Sophomore
Kelsey Craven (Ramseur, NC) opened up the game with a two RBI single to center field and then Dillner would hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Sox for the early lead, 3-0. Craven would do it again in the third inning, when, this time, she hit an RBI single to left field, scoring Freshman
Raven Taylor (Laurel Hill, NC). Arcadia would get one back in the fifth inning, but RBI's by Sox, Dillner and Senior
Olivia Davidson (Crofton, MD) help ed Greensboro secure their second win of the day, 7-1.
The Pride were led by Craven whoo finished 3-3 with 3 RBI's, while Dillner added 2 RBI's. In addition, Simmons completed the game on the mound, recording 6 strikeouts and giving up only 1 run.
Greensboro will return to action on Sunday, March 5th for their final two games of the Classic as they will face Birmingham-Southern at 10:00am, followed by a game against the University of Lynchburg at 12:00pm.
