Tempe, AZ - The Greensboro Women's Triathlon Team will be in Tempe, Arizona this Saturday for the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships. Around 35 NCAA schools across all three divisions will be competing in the event.
Grace Dobson, a freshman from Mebane, NC, will be representing Greensboro College in the National Championships. Triathlon became an official women's sport for Greensboro College Athletics for the 2022 season, and this will be the second season in a row that the team is sending at least one student-athlete to the National Championships.
According to Triathlete.com, "In 2014, the NCAA voted to make triathlon the next Emerging Sport for Women, a designation that gave USA Triathlon a 10-year window to demonstrate the sport's viability at the NCAA level by recruiting at least 40 varsity programs, or by showing steady progress toward that goal."
Triathlon races at the NCAA level cover a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run. The National Championship events are split into a Division I and Division II race and a lower level Division II and Division III race.
