Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Triathlon team journeyed down I-40 on Sunday morning to meet a new and natural foe.
Yes, there would be a nine-team field present, but in this race the Pride swimmers, bikers, and runners would be facing a pair of upgraded obstacles. For the first time Sophia Waler and Alex Prillaman would be swimming in the open waters of Lake Norman (NC) and increased distances in all three legs of the taxing competition. The field would be swimming 750 meters, biking 16 miles, and running a 5k to complete the grueling course. There were multiple DNF's in the competition, but the Pride pair of Walter and Prillaman would navigate the murky and undulated terrain with a strong finish.
Head Coach
Karen Buxton had these thought on these two trailblazers and their accomplishments: "The Tri-Cal race was a great opportunity for the team to experience their first event in open water. Their commitment to training allowed them to complete this difficult race. With three weeks to practice before regionals at Smith Mountain Lake the team is focused on continued improvement and will be ready for their next challenge."
The GC Triathlon team will be competing next in the USA Triathlon East Regional Qualifier at Smith Mountain Lake (VA) on Saturday, October 15th .
