Greensboro's softball team played three games in the Grand Slam Triangle Classic over the weekend. Greensboro's bats were popping as the Pride cruised to wins over McDaniel and Arcadia on Saturday, February 26th. Â
In game one against Arcadia,
Kailey Walker got the Pride started early with an RBI double to score
Caroline Stanley. After an RBI single from
Jamie Hammer, Greensboro led 2-0 after the first inning. The Pride offense kept churning as
Kassie Simmons hit a 2-run home run in the 2nd inning, and then she followed up with a 3-run home run in the 4th. Greensboro was now up 9-0, and would go on to score 12 runs by the 5th inning. Pitcher
Cheyanne Cox pitched a gem, throwing a complete game in five innings. She only allowed three hits, and struck out six Knights in the process.
In game two against McDaniel, Greensboro found itself in a 2-0 hole after an inning and a half. Again the offense would rise to the challenge as the Pride exploded for five 2nd inning runs, including a
Caroline Stanley RBI single that put GC up 3-2.Â
Kassie Simmons hit a 3-run blast in the 5th inning to put the Pride ahead 9-4, and Greensboro would go on to a 10-4 win. Simmons went seven innings pitching as well, striking out seven hitters and surrendering only one walk.
In game three, Greensboro lost a 2-1 eight inning heartbreaker to Piedmont as the Pride again called upon
Cheyanne Cox to take the mound. She pitched another complete game, going all eight innings. She struck out 12 batters and gave up just one walk and one earned run in the loss.
The Pride moved to 4-1 on the season, and will travel to Surry CC on Tuesday for a doubleheader scrimmage starting at 2pm.
