Ariana Wolkerstorfer at 123 lbs and Isabella Ruiz at 130 lbs made history while competing at the NCWWC Southeast Regionals this weekend.  Greensboro became the first college in North Carolina history to have two female national qualifiers.  The Pride were also the first NC school to add women's wrestling back in 2020.  Wolkerstorfer finished in 4th place overall and Ruiz placed 5th in her 130 pound weight class, so both will qualify for nationals.

Ariana Wolkerstorfer (Greensboro College) defeated Caroline Schmitt (Limestone University) in a 7-6 decision in the first round.

Isabela Ruiz (Greensboro College) defeated Evelyne Vazquez (Emmanuel College) in the 5th place match with a last second takedown.

Head Coach Kevin Birmingham afterwards said, "Back in 2020 we had a dream and a goal as a college to make history.  The administration was extremely supportive to get the number one emerging sport in women's athletics here with the Pride and we are beyond grateful for this sense of leadership.  This weekend showed numbers will take time in an emerging sport, especially at the Division III level.  However, walking away with 100% of our athletes qualifying for the national tournament shows quality should be focused over quantity when building a program.  Greensboro College Women's Wrestling can help you achieve your goals, and we are excited to get to that next level in the near future."

He added, "These young ladies have put in the work.  The true definition of blood, sweat and tears to earn their chance to win a national title or All-American award.  They have earned this and words cannot describe how proud I am of their belief in this program, teammates, and coaching staff, but most importantly themselves."

Wolkerstorfer and Ruiz will compete at the National Championships (NCAA equivalent) March 4th and 5th in Adrian, Michigan.
