Softball Sweep on Opening Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Greensboro, NC
The Pride started the season with a double-header sweep over Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon (February 19th).  Greensboro won game one 3-2 behind a solid outing from pitcher Cheyanne Cox, who threw a complete game with eight strikeouts.  Greensboro's Caroline Stanley led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kassie Simmons.  In the fifth inning, Brittany Apgar scored on a double by M'Kenzie Davis to put the Pride ahead 2-0.

Ferrum would fight back, tying the game 2-2 in the 6th inning, but Greensboro's M'Kenzie Davis scored the winning run off a Ferrum throwing error.

In game two, the offense carried the load. Kailey Walker got the rally started with a single to left field, followed by a Ferrum error advancing her to third base.  Jamie Hammer got an RBI with a line drive to right field, followed by Katie Allison with a single to right field.  This brought in another runner, Hannah King, who reached base on a walk. The Pride broke the game open in the 3rd inning with seven runs off of six hits, and would go on to win 10-2 in the 5th inning.   Kassie Simmons went the distance pitching for the Pride with a complete game effort.

Greensboro looks to keep it rolling as they travel to scrimmage Surry Community College this Wednesday for a double-header starting at 2:00 PM.
