The Greensboro College athletic department and Athletic Director Kim Strable announced the appointment of Meredith Mills as the next softball head coach.
"Meredith has done fabulous things as both a player and veteran assistant softball coach at her alma mater," Strable said. "We feel extremely fortunate to have her join the Pride staff."
Mills comes to Greensboro College after spending the past five years at North Carolina Wesleyan College as an assistant coach.
"It means a lot to come back home to the Triad and do so as my first head coaching opportunity is incredible," Mills said. "I feel like I have a lot to bring to the table and I am anxious to get things started with the ladies and coach Tuders."
While at N.C. Wesleyan, Mills assisted in leading the team to its first (2019) USA South regular season title since 1996. She also helped the team to the 2021 East Division title and USA South Conference Championship round.
"I am thankful that years ago that coach John Brackett gave me the opportunity and paved the way for me," Mills mentioned. "I was able to grow and was given the responsibility to handle a lot of stuff that ultimately led me to this position."
Mills coached an All-Region second team selection, Academic All-District student-athlete, 15-plus first or second team USA South All-Conference student-athletes and numerous USA South Academic All-Conference student-athletes.
"It became clear in the search process that Meredith is an excellent fit for our college and athletics program and we have confidence that her well-noted work ethic and dynamic leadership will serve us well in the coming years," Strable added.
During her time with the Battling Bishops, she spent two years as a softball instructor at the Competitive Edge Academy. Prior to returning to her alma mater, she had a successful two-year stint as Sports Director for the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern.
Mills is a 2013 Wesleyan graduate with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. As an undergraduate, Mills was a four-year letterwinner in softball and two-year letterwinner in basketball for the Bishops.
In softball, she twice garnered USA South First Team All-Conference honors at first base. Mills went on to serve one season as a student assistant softball coach for head coach Brackett while completing her degree.
"Coach Teresa Fister left the program in a great spot and with the talent we have, we are going to have a really strong year," Mills added. "I feel that we have a really good chance of doing big things this season."
