Joel Kanagy and
Dominic Harris scored late wins to help secure a Saturday evening victory over Southern Virginia, 27-21.
Kanagy scored six points in the first segment and almost scored a pin early on in the 184-pound weight class and eventually Kanagy earned the pin at 1:56.
Harris scored an early takedown in the 197-pound weight class in the first minute and continued the advantage on the mat, earning the pin in the first segment.
Mauricio Reyes started the Pride on the right path early in the meet with a win in the 125-pound weight class. Reyes scored a two-point takedown in the second segment of the bout to claim an early lead as the action remained tight. He then scored a one-point reversal at the end of the second segment to carry a 3-0 lead into the final segment. Reyes scored two-points near the end of the third segment and scored a point with the riding-time advantage to win.
Josh Wilson opened with a two-point takedown to open the first segment of the 133-pound bout and then post another two points as he kept his attack on the ground for most of the first segment. Wilson carried a 7-3 lead into the second segment and then scored a takedown for the only two points of the second segment. Wilson continued to accumulate riding time in the third segment on the way to the win, 11-5.
Cody Williams scored a takedown one minute into his bout in the 141-pound weight class. Williams held the advantage on the mat for the entire match, scoring a takedown in segment two before securing the pin in 2:32.
Patrick Haskin found himself in a tight 157-pound matchup. Most of the 8-5 decision came in the third segment where Haskin scored five points on the way to victory while claiming the riding time advantage.
Hai Siu scored a fury of points in the first 1:30 of his 165-pound weight class bout, jumping to a 6-1 lead. Wrestling up two weight classes, Siu held a strong advantage, but then fell in the second segment. This evened the overall match, 18-18.
Kanagy and Harris' effort bolstered the Pride out of the 18-18 tie and created enough distance from the Knights to secure the win.
