Wilson and Kanagy lead Greensboro at Ned McGinely Invitational

The Greensboro College men's wrestling team began the 2021-22 season at the Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King's College. The Pride placed 10th out of 15 teams.

Josh Wilson led Greensboro has he placed third in the 133-pound weight class. Wilson opened the tournament as the number two-seed overall and defeated Patrick Snoke by a 10-3 decision. In the quarterfinals, the sophomore fell in tight match to Averett's Joseph Jones, 3-2.

Wilson moved to the consolation bracket and bounced back with a 4-3 victory. The Greensboro, North Carolina native continued his run with a fall at the 2:11 mark against Rashad Stratton from Delaware Valley. Wilson then had a 10-4 victory before claiming third place. 

Joel Kanagy also had a strong showing for the Pride. The 197 pounder was the sixth-seed in the bracket and won his first bout by a 10-4 decision before a fall in the 1:01 against Jackson Crawn. Kanagy added a major decision, 10-2, before falling in the semifinal round by a three-point decision (9-6). The senior went on to place fourth overall in the weight class.

Brandon Williams went 3-2 on the day in the heavyweight (285 lbs.) division as fellow heavyweight, Mason Thomas finished 2-2.

Cody Williams wrestled at 141 pounds and had a record of 4-2 on the day. Dominic Harris finished 3-2 in the 197-pound bracket.

Joshua Cox and Reggie Snowden each had a record of 2-2 for the event in their respective weight classes (141 and 165). 

Greensboro faces Ferrum College on Friday, November 12 for the first dual match of the season. Matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
