Men's Wrestling finishes 5th at Cougar Open

The Greensboro College men's wrestling team took part in the Cougar Open hosted by Averett University. The Pride finished fifth out of 20 teams.

Greensboro was led Josh Wilson as he won the 133-pound weight class. After a first round bye, Wilson won his second match by a technical fall followed by a 7-1 decision in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Wilson won by fall before a 6-2 decision over Coker's Hunter Ross in the championship bout.

The Pride's next highest finish was in heavyweight as Brandon Williams placed second. Williams won his match of the day with a 16-0 technical fall before winning by a fall in the second round. A major decision victory over Ferrum's Ethan Fragoso sent Williams to the semifinals, where he won by a 5-2 decision.

Daniel Porter won his first two matches at 125 by decision (12-5) and major decision (16-5), respectively. In the quarterfinals, Porter won via tech fall before falling in the semifinals and claiming third. Mauricio Reyes also placed sixth in 125 by going 4-2 on the day.

At 165, Dustin Blackburn went 3-2 and placed fourth followed by Reggie Snowden who placed sixth after going 5-2 in the division. Cody Williams and Khalil Belk both placed eighth in their respective weight classes, 141 and 197.

Greensboro hosts the Randy Tuggle Pride Duals on Saturday, November 20 at Proehlific Park. Start time is 9:30 a.m.
